Bob Schimmel was a frequent guest on Howard Stern and a good friend to all on the show, so his death last Friday hit Stern and his fans pretty hard.

Robert Schimmel was involved in a car crash and suffered serious injuries after the car, driven by his 19-year-old daughter, rolled to the side of the freeway when she attempted to avoid another car. He died Friday at age 60.

Howard Stern talked about Schimmel during his radio show this morning and made mention of the Bob Schimmel special on Howard 101 tonight.

Stern noted that Schimmel is a “hard guy to forget.” Based on the outpouring of fan love, I’d say that’s about right.

Spokeo was launched in 2006 by a bunch of Stanford graduates as a social network aggregator that would allow people to keep track of their friends’ updates on multiple social networks. Later it was redesigned into a user search engine. After a few years and the fourth redesign of the site it was criticized for offering credit ratings not controlled by the Fair Credit Reporting Act.

Spokeo offers free services for finding out basic information about anybody present online, and premium services such as e-mail and phone number search.

Spokeo Mobile, the super-fast mobile version of the site was released today. It works in the exact same way the normal version does, but it’s super fast. Users visiting the Spokeo website using smartphones will be redirected to the mobile version of the web page.

cleveland air show:

Around noon all planes were grounded as a result of heavy rain. During the Army’s Golden Knights Parachute jumping slot winds were too high and their performance was canceled. The same fate hit the Navy’s Blue Angels. It was too windy and visibility was too low for their high altitude stunts.

To make up for the inconvenience, consumers that purchased tickets for the Cleveland Air Show on Saturday are eligible to come back Sunday or Monday with the same ticket.

For the 188th year, the Great Geauga County Fair featured it’s annual Chicken Flying Contest to begin the festivities with packed grandstands–and lots of chickens.

What is a chicken flying contest?

Well, this year more than 30 people competed to see how far their chicken, placed in a mailbox, would fly when let out of the 15-foot-high mailbox.

The winner and the farthest flying chicken clocked in at a distance of 25 feet.

By that time, some of the best spots along the Ohio River will have been occupied for two weeks.

A flotilla of houseboats and cabin cruisers out of Steamboat Marina in New Richmond arrived Monday on the shoreline near Gen. James Taylor Park. Six boats were moored there Wednesday afternoon.

“If it wasn’t us,” Jo Ann Dolwig said, “somebody else would be here.”

Dolwig was relaxing on the front deck of Dennis Lovell’s houseboat, the 34-foot Sue Bret III, with Brenda Klaas and Kevin Heckle in the afternoon sunshine. Between sips of iced tea, Lovell said he’s never missed a Riverfest and has moored his boat at this exact spot for the past five or six.

“It is the best view,” the Taylor Mill resident said. “The best.”

“Unless you’re on the fireworks barge,” Heckle quipped.

Lovell expects about 20 family and friends to be aboard his boat when the annual fireworks extravaganza that marks the end of summer in Greater Cincinnati and Northern Kentucky gets under way. Heckle, of Eastgate, will be joined by his wife on their 28-foot cruiser, Revelry, which was moored between Lovell’s boat and Klaas’ houseboat, the Nadine.

“We do all this for the stupid fireworks. Can you believe that?” Lovell said. “I love fireworks. I just flat love fireworks. As a matter of fact, I’m like a little kid when they start. Everything else quits when I’m watching fireworks.”

The group from Steamboat Marina will head back upriver on Labor Day. But for now, they’re just enjoying the wait.

“We haven’t seemed to get bored,” Lovell said. “We get hot sometimes. But hey, you’ve got the biggest swimming pool in the world right here.”

Known for is his raunchy HBO specials, as well as countless, equally explicit appearances on Howard Stern’s radio show (as was his style), Schimmel was well loved by his peers in the comedy realm.

While traveling in Arizona last Thursday, Schimmel’s 19-year-old daughter Aliyah swerved to avoid an oncoming car, causing the vehicle containing herself and her father to flip multiple times. Aliyah survived the accident and is currently in stable condition.

No stranger to health woes (or tragedy), Schimmel lost his son Derek to cancer at age 11, then won his own a battle with Stage 3 Non-Hodgkin lymphoma back in in 2000. The comic was currently awaiting a liver transplant, after learning in January that he’d contracted cirrhosis from a Hepatitis C-infected blood transfusion. No word on whether the diseased liver played into his untimely death.

The comedy community was rocked by Schimmel’s sudden passing Friday, and took to various social media outlets to say a sad so long to their friend.

“Robert Schimmel was one of the funniest and nicest guys in comedy,” Jimmy Kimmel tweeted Friday night, noting that he hoped he’d be given “bad information” regarding the loss. Added his friend Dane Cook: “Robert Schimmel was one the first people in comedy to call when my folks were fighting cancer. No ego no bs no small talk just inspiration.”

“I’m so sad about Robert Schimmel dying,” wrote fellow funnyman Penn Jillette. “I’ve been checking the news for 3 hours hoping it wasn’t true. He was very funny and wonderful.”

Onetime Fear Factor host Joe Rogan also tweeted his disbelief, saying: “If this has been confirmed, it’s terrible news. He was one of the nicest guys in comedy. F——–k. I loved that dude. He was SUCH a nice guy, and f–king hilarious.”

Schimmel’s brother Jeff Schimmel also took to his Facebook page, confirming the death with an emotional tribute to his sibling:

“ROBERT SCHIMMEL. Son, Brother, Father, Grandfather, Comedian, Generous Man. I have always loved you, admired you, and was proud to be your biggest fan. I will never forget a single moment. R.I.P.”

The Owls pulled within 24-10 before halftime when redshirt freshman Taylor McHargue completed a 47-yard touchdown pass to Randy Kitchens. The ball bounced off the hands of tight end Vance McDonald and into the hands of Kitchens.

Charles Ross scored on a 2-yard run for the Owls late in the fourth quarter.

Running back Sam McGuffie, who transferred from Michigan, had 14 carries for 47 yards in his Owls debut.

Justin Tucker had field goals of 51 and 26 yards for the Longhorns.

Baltimore County has a total of 173 schools, and of those, about 50-60 have little or no air conditioning, which can be a major problem for students and staff when the temperatures are so high. This early dismissal has caused a bit of a nightmare with the logistics of getting 70,000 students on 800 buses home to their parents unexpectedly early.

The students in the district are undoubtedly excited to have some unexpected time off so early in the school year. Hopefully everybody can get home safely and stay cool.
