In addition to being jailed, he has also been ordered to pay Andrews $7,366 in restitution.
He pleaded guilty of stalking Andrews for over 18 months. He also removed the peephole from the hotel room where she was staying and filmed her naked. Barrett secretly videotaped the ESPN reporter at various hotels. He then posted those videos online.
“He stalked me in a calculated way,” Andrews told the court. “I have been humiliated. I have been embarrassed and my career has been ripped apart.”
Barrett used a small camera to record videos of Andrews through peepholes in hotel rooms in 3 different states. He later tried to sell those video footages on the Internet. In one instance he tried to sell the material to celebrity website TMZ.
The plea agreement states that in February 2008, Barrett stayed in the room next to Andrews in Columbus, OH, where he used a peephole to shoot a video of her. He also spied on the Andrews at a hotel in Nashville in September 2008 and recorded a video of her unclothed. 7 of the 8 videos posted online were apparently shot at the hotel in Nashville.
On September 11, 2009, Andrews appeared on Oprah Winfrey Show in what she called “first and last interview” about the situation. She described the situation as a nightmare and stated that at the time she discovered the video, she thought that her career would end.
On October 2, 2009, the FBI announced Barrett’s arrest. At a hearing on March 15, 2010, he was sentenced to 30 months in prison.
